SwimMAC Team Elite Takes it From the Pool to the Yoga Mat

SwimMac Team Elite Members at Yoga On Tap

IT’S OFFICIAL! The SwimMAC Team Elite is coming to OMB Yoga On Tap May 17th and you don’t want to miss it! The fifth stop of the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series is being made in Charlotte at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center uptown May 12th -15th, and that following Tuesday they’re coming to do some yoga!

A Little Bit About the Series: The Arena Pro Swim Series is an event that is a part of USA Swimming, the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. The series brings together the best swimmers from around the world and lets them compete before they are off to Rio to represent our country! It is an absolutely amazing event that started this year in the city of Minneapolis, continuing all the way through Austin, Orlando, Mesa, Charlotte, Santa Clara and will finish in Indianapolis at the beginning of June - quite a journey!

It wasn’t until 2007 however, that SwimMAC partnered with USA Swimming and the United States Olympic Committee and created the country’s first “Center of Excellence” for swimming. This year, as they go into the 2016 Olympics in Rio, SwimMAC already has 27 Olympic Trials qualifiers, the highest it’s ever had! The Team Elite program includes 12 U.S. National Team members, six U.S. Olympians and six international Olympians. This past April, the SwimMAC Team Elite hosted a Team Elite Fantasy Camp, where those as young as 10 years old up to 21, from all over the world, came out and trained for a weekend with Team Elite and the exceptional coaching staff. Parents were allowed to stay and watch their swimmers get a behind the scenes look at the training and development of one of the best programs in the world. What an opportunity! Though this event has already passed, SwimMAC, a place where most of these pro athletes have grown up and trained, offers many summer camps and other opportunities for all age swimmers.

This all could not have been made possible without one of the 2016 Olympic swim coach’s for USA, David Marsh. David has coached nearly 50 Olympians throughout his career including Olympic gold medalists Ryan Lochte, Cullen Jones and Tyler Clary (WOW!). Since 2007, he has worked as the CEO/Director of Coaching at SwimMAC where he currently coaches 12 members of the 2015-16 USA Swimming National Team. As a 2010 American Swimming Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, it will be quite an honor to have him with us at Yoga On Tap!!

So lets make sure to have as many supporters cheering the SwimMAC Elite Team on at the Arena Pro Swim Series! It’s open to the public! You can check them out :: swimmaccarolina.org/team-elite.com :: to stay updated with the team, and tickets are available to purchase at: arenaproswimcharlotte.com.
