Yoga On Tap This Week Features a Charlotte "Star"
Melissa Hickok makes it her mission to help others Dec 6th. This week, Yoga on Tap has a “Star” who is participating in one of Charlotte’s most favorite annual fundraising and entertainment events, Dancing With The Stars Of Charlotte for The Pink House.
Carolina Breast Friends, known in Charlotte as The Pink House, is a local non-profit serving women through all stages of breast cancer. Their mission is is to serve the breast cancer community in a positive environment. They provide education, encouragement and friendship during any stage of the journey.
Born and raised in Charlotte, Melissa is a local star in the yoga community. She brings diverse people together under one very hot roof to practice how to have fun, build confidence, love their bodies and love themselves. Melissa teaches at Charlotte Yoga, online with Gather Yoga, and in her home studio.
Formerly, she competed in the roller derby arena, skating with and training an all-star group of women as a founding member of The Charlotte Roller Girls. Many still know her as Pollyannarchy, her on-wheels persona. She formerly taught high school art, ceramics and photography within CMS before pursuing her passion for yoga. She enjoys photography and painting and owns Inner Child Art Studio, creating custom ultrasound art for parents-to-be.
Supporting breast cancer awareness became especially meaningful to Melissa last year when her mother was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She has worked closely with The Pink House to raise funds and is thrilled for the opportunity to make an impact this year dancing her heart out. She dances in honor of her mother, Susan, as she continues her fight.
